Meet the TRUSTEES
Martin Muir
Martin was born in the UK, raised in Australia and now lives in Cambridgeshire.
A Biomedical Scientist by profession he also has trained as a classical singer and has performed numerous baritone operatic roles throughout his career.
He has been assisting North Kigezi Diocese through the mission work of his local church, St Thomas a Becket, and Friends of North Kigezi Diocese.
Ian and Wendy Catterick
Ian and Wendys first involvement with FNKD was in 2010 when they heard about a young woman who, due to the death of her father, the local vicar, was going to have to give up her studies to be a nurse. They
felt moved to sponsor her to complete her qualification and she was then able to return to Bucence village to become the local nurse. In 2012 she got married and her wedding was Ian and Wendy’s first experience of Uganda as they combined this with a visit to the new Children’s Centre.
They have since visited three more times. Wendy has worked with vulnerable children in Kent for more than 20 years and set up the education project of a charity that supports unaccompanied child refugees. She now works in community engagement for a diversity arts company and teaches English to women who have come to the UK as adult refugees. Ian spent part of his childhood in South Africa and felt very at home whilst visiting Uganda. As a retired civil engineer, he has enjoyed his involvement with FNKD building projects. Ian and Wendy have both helped with FNKD fundraising and awareness events in Kent and have sponsored 5 young people. They are still in contact with one young man who came to FNKD as an orphan and is now a teacher in Kampala.
Reverend Canon Kenneth Berkin
Reverend Canon Kenneth Berkin has worked in Africa for some 40 years, initially as a Human Resources Consultant until he took Holy Orders and was trained and ordained in Uganda and later installed as a Canon in Emmanuel Cathedral in Rukungiri,
His ministry is highly welcomed and is well known in the Diocese especially in Bucence Village,
He has served under 4 Bishops and is a Founder Trustee of our charity.
Rachel Harris
Peter and Margaret Beard
Peter and Margaret ran a Christian Design and Printing ministry to help churches and Christian charities produce good quality printed materials. Peter is a retired Baptist Pastor and they both ran many activities in their community for many years, including children’s and youth work, coffee mornings and parent and carer groups. Peter still preaches in local churches and they are both involved in supporting their local church. Margaret has a particular passion for supporting charities working in other countries and is a great encourager to get many people involved supporting the work of the charities. They became Trustees of FNKD in 2023 to support Rachel as she heads up the charity. Rachel was one of the young people who benefited from their ministry in Rowhedge in the 1970’s.
Together, our trustees provide the vision, oversight, and passion that make FNKD’s work possible — ensuring that every donation directly helps support a child in Africa.
