FNKD (Friends of North Kigezi Diocese) is a UK-based charity sponsoring children in Africa. Since 2006, we’ve worked in rural Uganda to support orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children with education, care and sustainable development.
Join Us in Making a Difference
We run the FNKD Children’s Centre in Bucence, Uganda, providing a safe home for children facing poverty, neglect or abandonment.
We also organise sponsorships for children in Uganda, ensuring they receive education, food, clothing, healthcare, counselling, and love.
With the help of our UK supporters, we are sponsoring a child in Africa and breaking the cycle of poverty one life at a time.
All of the families and children on our programmes are very poor but through sponsorship their lives are being changed and hope is being restored.
Our Journey and Mission
Founded in 2006 by Revd Canon Kenneth Berkin and dedicated volunteers, Friends of North Kigezi Diocese (FNKD) is a UK-based charity committed to supporting and sponsoring children in Africa. Our mission is to uplift orphaned, abandoned and needy children in rural South Western Uganda by providing essential resources, education, healthcare and life skills training.
With a team of local Ugandan staff and UK volunteers, FNKD operates within the Diocese of North Kigezi, focusing on empowering the vulnerable to restore hope and dignity through education, healthcare and sustainable living initiatives.
Through our UK programme, anyone can sponsor a child in Africa and give a child the chance to attend school. Over the past 14 years, many children have passed through our care, progressing into education and employment. Some have earned degrees in teaching, nursing and business, while others have become skilled in tailoring, mechanics, catering and hairdressing.
We continue to run life skills training programmes at Bucence Children’s Centre to support young people who may not follow academic paths, helping them achieve independence and a brighter future.
